
In class students will work with a range of hammers, stamps and abrasives to obtain surface designs on any metal. Students will also learn to create some simple hand-made texturing tools using household items. There will be some forms to work with in class, but please bring any pre-made forms you have, that you'd like to add some texture to.

Learn the basics of working with epoxy clay in this class. THis is a great new product on the market that can be worked similar to clay. It can be used as a very strong adhesive and cures without heat or special equipment into a solid, durable piece. In class you will learn to work with the epoxy clay in bezels, make custom beads and mold the clay into free standing pendants or focal pieces. Feel free to bring anything you would like to incorporate into your pieces.

In this class you will learn the basics of using epoxy resin to create custom picture pendants. We will cover techniques for filling bezels and doming tiles using your favorite photographs, decorative paper, printed images or other 2D objects. Practice materilas will be provided. Feel free to bring any printed materials or photographs you would like to practice with. This is a two session class, allowing for resin to cure. Students will complete pendants in session two. All supplies will be provided in class. Please do not wear loose clothing to class.

For those who are familiar with the basics of working with resin, this is the next step. In this fast paced class you will learn a wide variety of new skills that will unleash your imagination including using molds, embedding 2D and 3D objects (for a layered, textured or floating effect), coating paper and fabric in resin and more. You will also learn how to make your own mold from an existing object. Included in the class price is everything you need to test drive these skills - you don't have to buy any supplies to take this class. This is a two session class, allowing for resin to cure. Students will learn finishing techniques and complete projects in session two. Please do not wear loose clothing to class.

Create stunning, vibrant surface coloration with heat on copper and brass in this intermediate level patinas class. In class, students will use a butane torch to explore "flame painting" using the metal's surface as a canvas. Applying solution patinas to achieve more controlled effects and sealants will also be covered.

This cold connection is the perfect alternative to attaching metals with solder or glue. In this class you will learn several different techniques for riveting metal, using wire, tacks and tubing. You'll begin by using various methods to texture metal shapes and then use these pieces to create a layered pendant of your own design. In this advanced class students will create a "statement" bracelet that is fun and easy to wear. This piece has movement and flexibility and incorporates a number of metal working skills including texturing, annealing, shearing, piercing and forming. You'll also learn an easy way to create jump rings for this and other projects. You can also register for the Basic Solution Patina or Heat Patina class and bring your bracelet to add some surface color.

If you make jewelry with wire, it's likely you use plenty of headpins. This intensive class is designed for those who want to reduce their costs on findings and add another personal element to their work. Students will learn the most basic metal smithing technique for creating balled headpins with fine silver, sterling silver, copper and a butane torch. THis class covers safety and use of a butane torch, basic equipment and the least toxic chemicals needed for working with these metals. (Some of them, simple household products.) along with pertinent chemical safety considerations. We'll also learn some variations on the balled headpin and some new applications for an old finding. Please do not wear very loose clothing or open toed shoes to class. Tools and practice wire are provided.

You've been making great jewelry and given a ton of it away. People are asking for more and they want to pay for it. What now? This is an intensive class for people who are ready to create a business selling their work. In class you will begin developing a basic business plan including: mission statement, objectives, marketing, promotion, financial outline and strategies for increasing profitability. We'll cover a simple system for pricing your pieces, business licenses, record keeping and numerous small business resources. This is not a lecture class. Come prepared to write, interact and stretch your imagination. In this class we will not cover in detail business taxes or e-commerce. Please bring at least 5 examples of your work to class.
